Ellis brings back USWNT veterans for year-ending matches

U.S. Women's National Team defenders Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg and Ali Krieger, plus midfielder Megan Rapinoe and forward Alex Morgan return to the roster in preparation for November matches against Romania, it was announced Thursday.

U.S. coach Jill Ellis named 24 players as the U.S. prepares for its final games of the year at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Calif., at 7 p.m. PT Nov. 10 (ESPN2) and at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., at 6:30 p.m. PT Nov. 13 (FS1).

Ellis named 11 uncapped players to the roster for two victories over Switzerland this month, forwards Kealia Ohai and Lynn Williams scoring goals. Defenders Casey Short and Abby Dahlkemper, midfielder Andi Sullivan, plus Ohai and Williams, return. Two uncapped players have been called up: goalkeeper Adrianna Franch, who has been in several camps, and Kristen Edmonds, who led the Orlando Pride with six goals. Defender Jaelene Hinkle of the NWSL champion Western New York Flash, who has earned eight caps, was also named.

"Our last training camp and games with Switzerland were extremely positive in regards to giving new players a chance to perform, continuing the process of deepening the player pool and fostering competition within the squad," Ellis said in a release. "With this dynamic mix of players, we are looking forward to the environment and to finishing off the year on a winning note."
