USMNT set for friendly with Serbia in San Diego


Bruce Arena’s first game in his second stint as U.S. Men's National Team coach will be against Serbia at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 (ESPN2, Univision Networks).

The U.S. will conduct a January training camp, concluding with the match against Serbia and another undetermined opponent in preparation for World Cup qualifiers against Honduras March 24 and Panama March 28.

The U.S. has a 1-3-1 record at Qualcomm/Jack Murphy Stadium dating to 1969 and a 1-5-2 record in all games in San Diego. In its last visit to San Diego, the U.S. took a 6-0 victory over Guatemala July 5, 2013.

The U.S. has an 0-2-0 record against Serbia, second place with a 2-0-2 record in Group D of UEFA World Cup Qualifying, which is recognized s the successor to the Yugoslavia national team. The Yugoslavs won by scores of 9-1 in the quarterfinals of the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne and 1-0 in a 1998 World Cup group play game in Nantes, France.
