FC Dallas enjoyed a 4-0 scrimmage victory over SMU Tuesday morning, but the Mustangs made them work for it.
SMU gave away an easy look in the ninth minute, fouling the speedy Marvin Chavez in the penalty box. David Ferreira promptly put the gift away in the net. The Colombian figured into the next goal as well, giving off to Atiba Harris, who made the score 2-0 in the 25th minute. The tap-in was Harris’ third goal of the preseason and it stood up until halftime.
Dallas dominated the play, but the pace was much more deliberate than against Tulsa.
FC Dallas scored off another set piece in the second half when Brek Shea converted a corner kick that was touched in by trialist Duke Hashimoto (also a former SMU player) in the 61st minute. It was Hashimoto’s first goal of the preseason. On the corner that came from the right, Shea went high to head the ball down that Hashimoto tapped in from the left corner.
The last goal was the sweetest, a 30-yard hammer by defensive back Anthony Wallace that roofed into the net just over the goalie, in the middle. The assist was a short pass from the right corner by Eric Avila. Wallace touched the ball to his left, then unloaded a bomb with his left foot.
It was also a relief for Hyndman and the rest of the FCD team to see Wallace bounce back strongly from a groin strain suffered against Tulsa, last Saturday. The team will return to the training field tomorrow morning and will finish out the week in Frisco on Thursday before departing for Florida in the afternoon.
