FC Dallas loans Castillo to Trabzonspor

FRISCO, Texas -- FC Dallas has loaned midfielder/forward Fabian Castillo to Trabzonspor FC through the end of 2016 with an option to buy, the team announced Thursday.

Castillo, one of MLS’s top young players, was acquired from Deportivo Cali on March 7, 2011. Last season, Castillo was named the league’s top player under the age of 24, earning his first All-Star team selection and totaling nine goals and nine assists. Castillo had a breakout season in 2014, tallying a career-best 10 goals and four assists in 27 games. In five-plus seasons, Castillo notched 34 goals and 30 assists in 159 regular-season games, plus one goal in eight playoff appearances.

“We want to thank Fabian for his time with FC Dallas, and his contributions during the last five years,” FC Dallas president Dan Hunt said. “It’s been our pleasure to watch Fabian grow from the teenager we all first met in 2011 to the exciting player he is today. We wish him all the best in Turkey.”

Trabzonspor has won six Süper Lig titles since its inception in 1967, finishing 12th last season.
