NEW YORK---There will be no player lockout in Major League Soccer, at least for the next two weeks.
MLS and the MLS Players Union Thursday night announced that they have agreed to continue to negotiate through Feb. 25, as they work towards reaching a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Negotiations scheduled for this week were postponed due to the snow storms on the east coast.
The parties had until Friday to reach an agreement on the CBA, which was extended from the original deadline of Jan. 31 so a work stoppage could be avoided. That original CBA deal was a five-year agreement.
MLS commissioner Don Garber, president Mark Abbott and several league representatives were scheduled to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with union officials.
The new deadline will run through the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic, in which the Red Bulls are participating. They play on Feb. 25 (deadline date) and then on Feb. 27.
