BECKIE LEADS TEXAS TECH
Hits 50-goal mark as No. 15 Aggies dominate TCU
Janine Beckie scored her 49th and 50th career collegiate goals Friday night as No. 15 Texas Tech romped to a 3-0 Big 12 Conference triumph over visiting TCU.
Beckie, a Canadian national-teamer, tallied in the 23rd and 30th minutes for the Red Raiders (8-1-4 overall, 1-0-2 Big 12), and Carly Wickenheiser added a third just before halftime.
Texas Tech climbed to sixth in the Big 12 standings, just two points behind co-leaders West Virginia and Texas. TCU (8-6-0, 2-2-0) dropped from a tie for first into third place, among three teams one point in back of the leaders.
Tech built significant advantages in shots (17-6), shots on goal (10-5) and corner kicks (6-1) in a comprehensive victory.
“We have taken over 50 shots in the last two matches,” Red Raiders coach Tom Stone said on his school's athletics website. “We are putting backlines on their heels, and when something like that starts to get momentum, it is pretty exciting to watch.”
Beckie gave Tech the lead from a Caity Jeap through ball, then doubled the lead from a pass over the top from Hannah Devine. Beckie has seven goals this season.
TCU nearly halved the deficit in the 41st minute, but Red Raiders goalkeeper Lauren Watson made an acrobatic save on an Allison Ganter shot from just outside the 6-yard box.
Wickenheiser scored with 13 seconds remaining in the half from Alli Murphy's free kick.
Texas Tech is home against No. 4 West Virginia on Sunday, when TCU plays at Texas.
