BIG ROMP FOR TCU
Horned Frogs rout Iowa State to open Big 12 slate
TCU exploded for four first-half goals, two of them from the penalty spot, and romped to a 5-0 triumph over visiting Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference opener Friday.
Emma Heckendorn tallied in the 12th minute, finishing from a Makenzie Koch cross, and Koch added a 14th-minute penalty kick, and the Horned Frogs (7-4-0) were off and running toward their most lopsided victory of the season.
TCU outshot the Cyclones, 19-7, and put 11 shots on frame while limiting its guests to just two on goal. The Horned Frogs last scored five goals in a match in an October 2010 win over Houston Baptist.
Brittany Little, Bobbi Clemmer and Audrey Brook also scored for the Horned Frogs, who have won seven of their last eight games while outscoring opponents, 23-2.
“We are becoming more and more confident on the offensive side of the ball,” TCU coach Eric Bell said on his school's athletics website. “The passing plays and the combination plays that we have are really good. We work on it all the time, and it's nice to see it play out in games.”
Little tapped in a Jill Finnerty cross in the 29th minute to make it 3-0, Clemmer converted from the spot in the 40th minute after Faith Carter was taken down in ISU's box, and Brook scored from a Little feed in the 86th minute to wrap the rout.
The Cyclones fell to 5-5-0 overall.
TCU is home Sunday against Oklahoma State.
