COWGIRLS SCORE 8 IN ROMP
Oklahoma State routs Oral Roberts
Oklahoma State tallied three times in a six-minute span of the first half to pull away from Oral Roberts on Friday night en route to an 8-0 nonconference victory.
Eight Cowgirls scored goals in a dominant display, with massive advantages in shots (24-6) and shots on goal (16-2). OSU (7-5-2), which had a break in its Big 12 Conference schedule this week, scored four goals in each half.
Courtney Dike assisted two goals for the Cowgirls, who went ahead through Allie Stephenson in the ninth minute, then turned a close game into a rout as Marlo Zoller scored in the 30th, Haley Woodard in the 32nd and Anna Beffer from the penalty spot in the 36th.
Madison Mercado (59th), Lana Duke (67th), Morgan McDougal (81st) and Joanna Robertson (85th) added to the romp in the second half.
Duke's, McDougal's and Robertson's goals were their first in college soccer.
“We've been working really hard in practice on finishing our chances,” OSU coach Colin Carmichael said on his school's athletics website. “We've been creating a ton of chances in every single game -- we've outshot just about everybody we've played -- and so tonight they started going in.
“You just hope that continues. Soccer is strange. One night you'll go out and can't finish anything, and the next night everything you hit goes in.”
Oral Roberts fell to 5-6-2.
The Cowgirls return to Big 12 play next Friday at Iowa State.
