Mountaineers' Buchanan honored with Women's College Boot
West Virginia junior defender Kadeisha Buchanan is the winner of the 2015 Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, recognizing the national player of the year.
A native of Brampton, Ontario (Cardinal Leger Catholic/Brams United), Buchanan is the first player in Big 12 history to win three straight conference Defender of the Year awards. The junior anchored a WVU defense that recorded 15 shutouts.
The award is based on fan balloting, which concluded on December 23, and on voting by the staff of the eight Soccer News net web sites: BigAppleSoccer.com, ChicagolandSoccerNews.com, DallasSoccerNews.com, DCSoccerNews.com, LASoccerNews.com, NewEnglandSoccerNews.com, PhillySoccerNews.com and SunshineSoccerNews.com.
The past year has been a huge one for Buchanan, who started all five games for Canada during the FIFA Women's World Cup, being named the Best Young Player and earning a spot on the WWC All-Star team. She was a finalist for CONCACAF's Female Player of the Year Award
In 23 games for the Mountaineers, Buchanan had a goal and three assists, leading WVU to the Big 12 Conference title, and s pot in the NCAA sweet 16, before falling to eventual champion Penn State.
Overwhelming fan support lifted Supporter’s Choice winner Erica Murphy of Monmouth into second place in the overall voting. Fan voting counts for 40% of the total toward selection of the Women’s College Boot.
