Bears off to best Big 12 start since 1998

Freshman Lauren Piercy struck in the 28th minute and Baylor held on for a tight 1-0 victory Friday at Iowa State to keep pace with West Virginia atop the Big 12 Conference.

Piercy fired to the top-left corner from an Amanda Hoglund cross to provide a first-half lead, and the Bears (7-4-1 overall, 2-0-0 Big 12) limited ISU (5-7-0, 0-3-0) to just three shots on goal.

Baylor put just two shots on frame, but it was enough to lodge its seventh straight victory. The Bears are off to their best Big 12 start since 1998, even on points with No. 4 West Virginia (2-0-0) and TCU (2-1-0).

Baylor plays next Friday at Kansas.
