SMU’s men’s soccer team starts the season tonight (7 p.m.) on home turf against a formidable opponent, the Missouri State Bears. The Mustangs are 11-3 all time against the Bears, but lost to MSU 3-1 last season in the SMU Classic. The Ponies are 19-0-2 all-time in season openers on the Hilltop.

Texas A&M’s Alyssa Mautz was named the NSCSAA National Player of the Week today. First, the Aggies’ Mautz earned Big 12 Player of the Week honor, announced yesterday by the Big 12 Conference office. All she did was score three goals in propelling Texas A&M to a 5-3 win over then-16th-ranked Virginia Tech on Friday. Two days later, she scored the only and game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over 24th-ranked Washington State. She had the game-winning goal in both games. Not surprisingly, Mautz was named the NSCAA National Player of the Week.

The USA Bid Committee has lined up two sponsors in support of the organization’s efforts to bring either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup to the United States. AT&T has been named an official sponsor of the organization, while American Airlines is an official partner.

KENNESAW, Ga.---KSU Soccer Stadium will host the 2011 NCAA Women’s College Cup, the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee announced.
The $16 million soccer stadium is shared by Kennesaw State University and the Atlanta Beat of Women’s Professional Soccer.

LUBBOCK, TX—It has been all good for Texas Tech soccer this season. The Red Raiders are not only 4-0, but haven’t allowed a goal in any game. The Raiders did it all on the road last weekend, starting with a 4-0 win over Northwestern State in Natchitoches, LA and progressing to Houston for a 2-0 win over Rice on Sunday.
