HOUSTON—Khari Stephenson and designated player Geovanni scored their first MLS goals as the San Jose Earthquakes (9-7-5, 32 pts) edged the Houston Dynamo 2-1 Sunday at Robertson Stadium.

SMU WOMEN HOST DAVIDSON
At noon today at Westcott Field

After knocking off St. Louis 2-1 on Friday, the SMU (2-1-1) Mustang women return to the pitch at Westcott Field today at noon to welcome first-time opponent Davidson (2-2-0) to the Hilltop. The Wildcats were an impressive 7-3-1 last season in Southern Conference play (12-10-1 overall) to earn its first College Cup appearance, losing to South Carolina in the first round.

LUNA FINALLY MAKES MLS DEBUT
Leaves fans wanting more

FRISCO, TX---Perfect would have been scoring a goal in his first-ever MLS appearance. But hometown rookie and FC Dallas Academy product Ruben Luna certainly wasn’t disappointing in his brief stint at the end of Dallas’ 1-0 win over Toronto FC. He came on in the 82nd minute and left the fans wanting more by the end of the game.

MUSTANGS WIN AGAIN
Take Lipscomb 3-1 behind three frosh goals

DALLAS, TX - The men's soccer team continued its fast start this season, defeating Lipscomb 3-1 at Westcott Field Saturday night to open the SMU Classic and upping its record to 2-0. Freshmen led the scoring once again for the Mustangs as Robbie Derschang, Zach Barnes and AJ Corrado each found the back of the net for SMU.

CUNNINGHAM BREAKS TORONTO
On eighth goal of season; 129 in career

FRISCO, TX---FC Dallas finally took care of Toronto FC with Jeff Cunningham’s 129th career goal and his eighth of the current campaign in the 47th minute. That powered a 1-0 victory at home, Dallas’ sixth straight win at Pizza Hut Park and extended the team’s unbeaten streak to 13.

CHESTER, Pa.—After a slow start, the Philadelphia Union put together one of the most solid performances of their first MLS season on Saturday, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with the Kansas City Wizards Saturday in front of 17,182 at PPL Park.

Secondary players must step up tonight

Two third-place teams square off tonight when FC Dallas (9-2-10) hosts Toronto FC (7-8-6), but the team from Canada would change positions with the Western Division Texas team in a heartbeat. The Canadians have some making up to do. Respectable enough in the Eastern Division, TFC’s 27 points would leave them out of the playoffs if they started today. The 27 points would place Toronto in seventh place in the West.

SMU RALLIES PAST MSU IN OT
Barnes, Castillo, Nelson score for Mustangs

DALLAS,TX – SMU roared back from a 2-0 halftime deficit and a two and one-half hour lightning delay Wednesday night to finally dispatch the Missouri State Bears 3-2 in double overtime at Westcott Field in the season opener for both teams. It was an all-youth movement, with freshmen Zach Barnes and Juan Castillo leading the goal charge in the second half and topped by the game-winner from sophomore T.J. Nelson in overtime in his first career college goal.

HARTMAN NAMED PLAYER OF MONTH
For Major League Soccer

FRISCO, TX – After leading FC Dallas to a 3-0-1 record in August, goalkeeper Kevin Hartman was named Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for August, the league announced today. The award is voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). That is league-wide recognition coming in a season where Hartman has deserved it, but often not received it.
